Picolit is one of Italy's rarest and most coveted dessert wines. Unfortunately, the wine is disappearing because the Picolit grape variety is extremely hard to cultivate and many producers have abandoned it and planted more profitable international grapes in its place. Ever true to tradition and great believers in their terroir, Enrico Coser and his father Fabio continue to make this excellent, sweet wine. Made from 100% dried (passito) grapes, the wine is aged in small oak barrels that have been used previously for Chardonnay grapes. The use of oak is essential, the winemaker explains, to achieve the rich color and mouthfeel of the wine.
