Owner Nicola Marzovilla recently obtained an exclusive allocation of 2003 Barbaresco from one of his favorite producers, Borgogno, one of the appellation's oldest and most respected traditional-style wineries. Although most of the wine is destined for the wine list at I Trulli, he has decided to make 5 cases available for sale at Vino.
After four years aging in large casks (traditional style botti) and in bottle, the 2003 vintage is proving to be a blockbuster and has been compared by many to 2001 and 1996. We recently tasted the wine at the store: it shows nuanced fruit on the nose and in the mouth, superior tannic structure, and the classic mouthfeel and finish of traditional style, "classico" Barbaresco.
